Which new approach on sustainable mobility do you currently develop further?
InnoZ works on sustainable mobility solutions such as Carsharing with electric vehicles. Energy is thereby produced by renewable energy sources such as wind and solar integrated in an intelligent Micro-Smart-Grid. In this context we develop integrated business models between electric car fleets and smart energy grids; We try to establish new value chains as electric car batteriesare a major cost factor today. In the course of the energy transition (Energiewende), which means the switch towards renewable energy sources, temporary storage is a strongnecessary for guaranteeing grid stability.
Could you briefly describe how do you think public and private transport would complement each other best?
Next to smart energy grids, InnoZ focuses on one of the most obvious sustainable means of transport: Bicycles. With the concept of “Bicycle Highways” in Berlin we make a contribution to develop a secure and more stress-free riding. Furthermore, we believe that the transportation bicycle could be supported by improving the connection between cycling and public transport. In this context, the InnoZ-Report about bicycle parking in Berlin shows that parking space for bicycles are overloaded, even in winter.Many people using individual transport cannot reach their specific destination through public transport. Therefore we require solutions that enable private transport at that point where public transport ends. Station based or free floating Carsharing can complement public transport, as well as ride-sharing. By the ubiquity of smartphones and digital platforms almost everybody can be a potential public transport service, although there are still unsolved questions referring legal positions of those services.
For this purpose, we develop appropriate technical mediums: Smartphone-Apps allowing to approach all means of public transport and that potentially function as ride-sharing platform in the long-term. This kind of solution is called “Single-Sign-on” which means that user register only once to use many mobility Services.
Which new opportunities for e-mobility have been opened up since the project completion of BeMobility 2.0.?
Within the BeMobility project we experienced that conductive charging of electric vehicles was one sophisticated crucial point. Inductive, meaning wireless charging of electric vehicle is one of the most promising new developments making electric mobility more attractive for costumers. Allowing each electric vehicle to be interoperable and automatically charged on each charging unit standardization of technology is a necessity.. InnoZ test interoperable inductive charging in the joint project InterOp.
Name a key aspect of your current work on how digitalization disrupts transport planning
The choice of transportation is increasingly determined by digital technologies such as smartphones. Right now we are working on an application key feature, called “Indoor Navigation”. Adressing the challenge, that big rail way stations or airports can be confusing and lead to disorientation, Indoor Routing helps especially disabled passengers to find right train or boarding gate.
